Jimmy Carter calls the tunnels through which Hamas smuggles their weapons "defensive tunnels".

Enh, not going to join in on the Carter bashing on this one-though goodness knows there is a lot to bash him on. The phrase "defensive tunnels" was used to describe enemy positions in WW2 by Americans, even tunnels holding kamikazi like those held by the Tojos on Iwo Jima. Carter graduated from the Naval Academy a year after WW2 and would probably have been exposed to the phrase.
