When will people learn?

If you hope to someday be a political appointee, don't have an illegal immigrant for a nanny/housekeeper. Just don't. Added bonus in this story, the guy picked to be Obama's Treasury Secretary allegedly didn't pay his taxes for several years.

Next thing you'll tell us he'd downloaded illegal MP3s!

Ah, well, actually, that might be a qualification for Obama administration job: to be proficient in picking pockets of capitalist corporations. Not paying taxes to the Sacrosanct government, though, is a Real Crime.

I'm still waiting for my Bush pardon.

Didn't anyone learn the lessons of Zoe Baird or Kimba Woods?

If Geithner isn't forced to withdraw there will be much talk about the double standard between female judges and male economists.

Perhaps y'all aren't aware of the difference between being an "illegal immigrant" (someone who entered the country illegally) and briefly being an "illegal worker" (someone who entered the country legally but whose work authorization expired yet continues to work). Baird and Woods hired illegal immigrants, people whose very presence in this country violated the law. They did so knowingly and did not pay the employment taxes for those individuals.

But yeah, immigration law, whatever! so much easier to draw a comparison that doesn't actually hold up to scrutiny. Kind of like tax law -- why bother to understand and note that Geithner paid his federal and state income taxes but failed to pay his Medicare and Social Security taxes (taxes normally paid by one's employer) because he was employed by the IMF, which doesn't pay those taxes for its employees? Nah, let's just smear him as a tax-dodger.
