Word. Up.
Dawn Summers has had enough of Obamamania:
Anyway, I’ve basically had to retire one of my favorite sweatshirts, because I was on the verge for cutting my ears off so I wouldn’t have to hear the whimsical sighs of “oh, we really just need him right now,” comments I’d get whenever I’d show up in my "That One ‘08" hoodie. One woman actually pulled me aside before a game to “let me know that her son had volunteered for the campaign in South Carolina,” even though as she was sure I knew “not everyone is as open-minded as we’d like.” It honetly felt like she wanted me to sign something for her letting her neighbors and employers know that she’s not racist.Posted by Karol at January 19, 2009 07:30 PM | TrackBack

There's just no pleasing some people.
Posted by: ari at January 19, 2009 11:23 PMAnd tomorrow we celebrate the first racist election of a President of the United States. There's progress for you. Not with a bang, but a whimper.
Posted by: Casca at January 19, 2009 11:24 PMCome on Casca. There have been plenty of racist presidential elections. Ten Cent Jimmy Buchanan will let us keep slaves but John Fremont won't. Abe Lincoln wants to limit the expansion of slavery in the territories; Stephen Douglas wants to let the territories themselves vote it or out; John Breckenridge will let us take slaves wherever we want; John Bell speaks in platitudes. James Cox will keep the federal service segregated like Woodrow Wilson and Warren Harding will integrate it (for more on Harding on race, see Francis Russel's biography which argues that Harding's whole life and career was based on rumors of his racial ancestry). Look Obama did not win on race. Obama won because he is an empty suit who is clean and articulate to quote his VP and did not have the baggage of Hillary or McCain; not to mention the Republican and conservative brands being tarnished by a failed presidency.
Posted by: Von Bek at January 20, 2009 08:29 AMIt is all beginning to sink in on people. We elected a fad president of the U.S.
Posted by: StB at January 20, 2009 09:49 AMDawn has now sufficiently lowered her expectation for the next 4 years to avoid any presidential disappointment.

That, sir, is a hate crime.
Oh, wait...
Posted by: Gerard at January 20, 2009 11:25 AMI'm just getting my groove on with Obamamania.
"Solid! Solid as Barack!"
Posted by: Lisa at January 20, 2009 11:40 AMOh man, Ashford & Simpson need to go back to managing that restaurant they own.
Not as bad as Eddie Vedder's rendition of "Barack Around The Clock" though.
Posted by: Gerard at January 20, 2009 11:50 AMI just read somebody (graduate of Harvard in mathematics, among other things) said, while listening to inauguration speech: "Finally I feel such joy having a President who projects confidence".
Even Winters has more sense in her head than our educated classes.
