No, really, I'm asking

Why not Mark Sanford in '12? In the same vein, why wasn't Mark Sanford an option in '08?

I like Sanford but he does some have weak spots. I can hear a lot of sighs about another governor from down South. Not only that, SC has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation (of course this is unfair to Sanford but this is politics). I think Sanford appeals a lot more to conservatives than he would the Republican establishment and his relations with the the party leadership have often been strained. He would easily be the most conservative Republican presidential nominee since Reagan. Something tells me the suits will be backing someone a bit more "safe" (with his tenure at RNC and his stronger funding, Haley B comes to mind) which is more reason to back Sanford.

I'm up for it.

No "fire in the belly". (Ahem!)

Besides, Republicans don't nominate governors on their first run.

You know what they say about South Carolina... too small for a state, too big for an insane asylum.
