At this point, Bush should start giving Obama pointers
Another Obama nominee withdraws, blames Israeli lobby.
Hat-tip James.

This situation is so troubling on so many levels
On the one hand we have a president who is nominating the guy saying "Israeli violence against Palestinians" is the key barrier to Mideast peace".
Or on the other hand we have a president that is so clueless as to what kind of person he is nominating.
I'm hoping that he's just clueless.
Posted by: Lisa at March 11, 2009 12:57 PMHonestly, for all the worries I had about Obama before he was elected, I really didn't think he'd just be straight up incompetent. And yet.
Posted by: Karol at March 11, 2009 01:12 PMIs it that effing hard to find someone who pays his taxes and doesn't hate Israel?
What kind of a piece of trash is this Obama fellow? Why doesn't he worry less about his kids having a swing, Arod being on steroids and what Bush did first and just try doing a good job? It's not nearly as sexy but it would sure be impressive.

This ain't yer daddy's democratic party, elana...
Posted by: Snoop-Diggity-DANG-Dawg at March 11, 2009 03:35 PMfor a non-anti-semite, Barry sure does know a lot of them. And Snoop - taking Jimmy Carter into account, I really don't see that big a difference.
Posted by: elana at March 11, 2009 05:07 PMWhile many of his missteps have been due to lack of management experience, I fear this one isn't. As Lisa pointed out, Obama places all the blame for Mideast turmoil on Israel. It's not surprising he'd pick someone who shares his views.
The Israelis have got to be wondering if it's time to find some new friends, and they have lots of military technology China would love to get its hands on.
Posted by: Eric at March 11, 2009 06:46 PMSad thing is, I wouldn't blame the Israelis if they leaped into the Dragon's arms at this point. Because somehow I think the Chinese would have already figured out how to say something sinister to gentle the Iranians down--but we keep hemming and hawing.
Posted by: James at March 11, 2009 10:07 PMThe Iranians would fall in line - they are big customers for Russian knock-off air defense systems.
Posted by: Eric at March 11, 2009 11:18 PMWhere is von Bek' comment on this? I take it as a silent agreement with Mr.Charles W. Freeman Jr.
Posted by: Tatyana at March 12, 2009 07:27 PMI suspect that Von Bek has the intellectual honesty to oppose a lobbyist for Saudi Arabia, the UA and China as the gatekeeper of intelligence for the executive branch.
This is one of those issues where being an actual America-Firster would put one on the side of those who support Israel and Taiwan. Those who support Freeman here merely prove that they have a primary loyalty other than to America; hatred of Israel/Jews/or neocons. And it is just too damning.
Posted by: RonL at March 13, 2009 10:19 PMI was recently at the Speaker Series at Radio City Music Hall in NY and they talked about this issue. Bill Maher and Ann Coulter were in a heated argument speaking from a Democratic and Republican stand point on this issue and many others. There’s an upcoming show that address this on March 31 with Anderson Cooper as host and Arianna Huffington, D.L.Hughley and Mike Huckabee on Free Speach and The Power of the Press. It should be an interesting debate.
