"Mr. Obama was seriously unqualified for the job of president"
It's an embarrassment of riches in terms of "Obama sucks" articles right now. Honestly, I really didn't think he'd suck this bad this quickly. Rushing to pass a bloated stimulus plan which allowed for the AIG bonuses, then getting outraged at the bonuses and pushing Congress to pass more idiotic, possibly unconstitutional, legislation, and then distancing himself from the 90% tax debacle, that's bad. Sending a video of himself(!) to Iran and having them spit in our collective faces, that's just a disaster.
I know I'm going to be accused of hating Obama because I'm a Republican and he's a Democrat but that's just stupid. For one thing, I don't hate him. He seems like a fine guy who has no business in any position of managerial authority, let alone as leader of the free world. He let his ego get stroked during the campaign to the point where he failed to realize that his election was in reaction to Bush, not because he was the second coming of Christ. Listen, it happens.
On one issue after another, from bail-outs to the environment, Medicare, life issues, foreign policy, the polls now tend to confirm what this pundit and a few other incorrigible reactionaries knew from the outset: that a plurality of American voters had embraced Mr. Obama not because of, but despite the policies he was signalling. They most certainly liked the man and his "temperament," and they most certainly wanted the Republicans out. But it did not follow that they wanted their government to lurch to the left.To my analytical mind, such as it is, they wanted Obama the man, but not Obama the agenda, except for the uplifting rhetorical bits about "hope," "change," and so forth. The idea that the man could not be separated from the agenda never fully fixed; John McCain and company actually avoided riding home on this point, once the media made clear it would be reported as "scare tactics."
Read the whole thing, it's excellent.

I agree. The dems benefitted from the lousiness of W. They ran a better and more organised campaign. The fact that Obama isn't all that should also indicate just how much discontent the direction the reps were taking caused amongst the voters. Ditto 2006.
The idea that reps should become 'more conservative' (as you have suggested) is worth researching, and then abandoning if it proves not to be the case.
Bryan, every candidate in my lifetime had to either be center-right or move to the right to win. That's not a coincidence.
Posted by: Karol at March 21, 2009 10:35 PMEvery column by David Warren is excellent.
He's my favorite Canadian after Mark Steyn.
Posted by: Gerard at March 21, 2009 10:47 PMYou should see the pathetic tape he made in response to his supporting abortion. I'm sure it's in retaliation to the Nations uproar over his commencement speech at Notre Dame.

I'll let you know when I see it.
Posted by: Karol at March 22, 2009 12:32 AMBryan always comes up with something new in idiocy. In this case, he thinks the Republicans had a direction over the past four years.
Posted by: WhatNext? at March 22, 2009 01:37 AMObama is making the same mistake W made in 2004. "I have a mandate." No you don't. The American people loathed Kerry more than they loathed W. Just because the American people had enough of W. does not mean we like what Obama stands for.
Posted by: Von Bek at March 22, 2009 05:09 PMYes, "hope" sounds real nice, but perhaps "experience" was more essential.
Posted by: lisa at March 23, 2009 09:06 AMi don't mind saying i hate someone. i happen to hate Barack. he is a bad man.
refusing to shun someone for their evil deeds or philosphies because they make a pleasant conversationalist is, i believe, in itself immoral, and the reason why this nation and this society is in such a pickle today.
let's be logical here:
what makes someone a 'good' person? good deeds.
what makes someone a 'bad' person? bad deeds (but not according to today's society, eh?)
i'll never forget watching court tv once and the defense attorney pointed to his client and stated "yes, my client murdered his wife, but that doesn't mean he's a bad person."
