Kumar Is Going To The White House (by Petitedov)

I know you will all be bummed to know that the third installment of the adventures of Harold and Kumar will have to be put on hold. Kal Penn is joining the White House to cut down the red tape or something. Just what our government needs is another idealistic (supposedly independent, if you watch the clip at the link that's Penn's claim - it made laugh) actor. Usually if you are an actor it's not whether you are Democrat or Republican, it's how left are you. I have no problem with actors getting into politics (hello - Reagan), but this guy's whole career has been stumping for Obama and giving a speech the day before the inauguration. Anyhoo, best of luck to him - Neil Patrick Harris was the best part of Harold and Kumar anyway.

Harold & Kumar wasn't nearly as entertaining as I had anticipated, although the scene with Doogie Howzer was pretty funny.

I liked him in the cinematic adaptation of The Namesake, he played Gogol, which was much better than I had expected. Other than that, the only part I've seen him play is that peripheral character on House.

I loved Namesake (the book - one of the best writings on the modern American immigrant experience). The movie was solid, but the book was so good I didn't enjoy the movie as much as I thought I would. I thought he was okay in the film, not great but okay. Harold and Kumar was kind of disappointing, not as funny as I hoped. I wasn't in the States when it came out, so maybe I had huge expectations about.

Harold&Kumar were a set of two horrible anti-white movies, showing the utter contempt the new class has for traditional America and even for minorities who "act white". Kal Penn is a perfect adjunct to BHO Jr.

I will, however, miss his character on House.

Jhumpa Lahiri is probably my second-favorite (contemporary) writer. Or third, after Kathryn Harrison and Ann Patchett.

I've never read Interpreter of Maladies, but her novels are mesmerizing. I really take issue with critics who accuse her of being repetitive. To me, it doesn't make a difference whether you focus on the broad sweep of life-like Patchett-or a small niche within a singular community. If you're a good writer, then you're a good writer, regardless.

I actually won't particularly *miss* his character on House--he was pretty plain; I imagine they would have gotten to whatever his drama is eventually, but they hadn't gotten there yet. But it was a dramatic and unwelcome turn of events. I'm looking forward to seeing what they make of it with the rest of the characters, though.
