Back to the break from history
I read a lot of non-political blogs; poker blogs, food blogs, wedding blogs, home blogs, girls writing about all the sex they're having, or not having, blogs.
A lot of these blogs had an "I don't normally write about politics but please vote for Obama" posts back in November.
It occurs to me, as I read these blogs now, as well as talk to non-political but left-leaning friends, that certain people need someone with a (D) after their name to be in office so that they could not care about politics.
They were told the Bush administration was "scary" so they mimicked caring about budgets or troop movements. Maybe they even had a half-thought out opinion on the Iraq war (half at most). But now, that Obama is finally finally president, they could tune out and let him do his thing, confident he is doing what they would want him to be doing.
When I bring up things Obama does (like, say, sends a goofy video of himself to Iran making us all look like dopes, or forcing through a stimulus bill which allowed for the AIG bonuses and then taking the rest of the weekend off) that they would never abide with the Bush administration, I very frequently get shrugged shoulders and a "I don't even watch the news these days."
Must be nice.

I think you are right that people do this. I see people who would not talk to their union rep unless they needed something from her. It's like they joined up so they didn't have to feign interest.
From here, I do notice a lot of people who seem to have just realise that their guy lost. I think it's gonna be bad for a while. They remind me of the 2000 lefties a little bit.
To whom are you referring, bryan? I'm guessing you're starting to see media coverage of the various tea parties, which I've seen described as "anti-Obama." They're as "anti-Obama" in the way the American Revolution was "anti-George III."
And what about those like me? McCain wasn't "my guy" either, and I refused to choose between the lesser of two evils.
