The doofus gets another pass

If a Republican said the US could be considered a Muslim country, as Obama did, it would be the equivalent of "I can see Russia from my house."

Who cares what would have happened if a Republican said something?

Instead of looking for whiny new ways to become a victim — as your choir ALREADY believes you and needs no further preaching — focus instead on facts.

What Obama said conditionally (If one were to ...) and hypothetically (then one could ...) could be said about Jews, Arabs, Japanese, Germans, etc with equal truth.

With a nation of 220+ million people, it's be a true statement for ALL of them -- the subject matter happened to be about Muslims, in the context of his upcoming journey to Egypt, a decidedly Muslim country.

There's no way we're a Muslim country. We still have a higher than thirty percent literacy rate, and don't stone women to death for wearing Max Factor products.

Then again, we haven't seen Barry's proposals for a second term yet.

Posted by: Gerard at June 3, 2009 12:18 PM

Ha!

"We still have a higher than thirty percent literacy rate,'

In some parts, yes.

"... and don't stone women to death for wearing Max Factor products."

Though we used to sometimes hang African Americans for the color of their skin. That and being uppity. I've seen the pictures.

What Obama said is moronic. And no, it's not a true statement for "all of them", whatever that means. I'm a Jew and know this is no Jewish country, no way, no how.

Posted by: Karol at June 3, 2009 12:31 PM

I find it amusing you don't feel America has a strong Jewish contingency in this country, being the world's most powerful nation and a traditional supporter of Israel, but being a Jew and all, you're entitled to that opinion.

Whatever "for all of them" means? Pretty simple, really. It means when you have one of the world's largest populations, you will have large numbers of factions of every stripe, including Muslims. So Anerica could have one of the largest populations of Muslims in the world, if for no other reason thatn we have 250 million people.

Pew estimates have the number at as many as 2.3 million.

Posted by: at June 3, 2009 12:40 PM

Jews make up around 1.5% of the US. If by your numbers that makes us a Jewish country, you must have had the same math teacher as Barack Obama. And 2.3 million Muslims, if that's even right, is a drop in the bucket of US population numbers. Making, again, Obama's statement idiotic.

Posted by: Karol at June 3, 2009 12:52 PM

You're a Jew that doesn't know their own demographics. According to the Jewish Virtual Library. 40.3% of the WORLD'S Jewish population is in America .... that's over 5 million Jews. And you don't think Jews and America have much in common? Then perhaps you should put down your bong.

And Obama wasn't talking about the numbers of Muslims as a percentage of America's population; he was talking about their numbers in real terms. So when he makes the point that there are more Muslims in America than in some Muslim countries, he's absolutely right, even if it's only because some American cities are larger than entire Muslim countries. Catching on yet?

Your calculations, again, are ridiculous. What matters is percentages, not actual numbers. There are only 2 million more Jews in the Americas than in Asia, in which case Asia should be considered a Jewish continent, right? What difference does it make if Jews and America have anything in common? Yes, they do, but Muslims really *don't* rendering Obama's point, AGAIN, moot even according to your half-assed thinking.

Your mother should have put down her bong.

Quit Whining needs to quit reading Howard Zinn for a few days.

Stop trying to make sense, Christine. You're getting in the way of Obama worship.

Posted by: Karol at June 3, 2009 01:27 PM

There's only a few hundred thousand less Jews in the US then there is in ISRAEL, so your statement abuut "no way, no how" is the asinine one.

Let's see what Obama said, not what you wanted him to say:

"And one of the points I want to make is, is that if you actually took the NUMBER of Muslims Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world."

Hmmm ... if you actually took the number of Muslim Americans ..." If you actually took the number. The number. Seems his "one of the largest Muslim countries in the world" comment was based on nothing more than the raw NUMBER of Muslims, eh?

OK, let's make it even simpler for you. There are 62 million+ Catholics in America. So by the "numbers," America is truly one of the largest countries in the world. Hell, even Italy, the birthplace of Catholicism and home to the Vatican, has only 57 million.

So would I be wrong to say "By the numbers, America is one of the most Catholic countries in the world?" Of course not; by the numbers, we have more than nearly any country in the word ... because there's 250 MILLION OF US.

Yes, disagreement with the fact before one is ALWAYS worship. Keep chanting about my worship.

>>>> Your mother should have put down her bong.

It would seem she'd already lent it to your mother.

Posted by: Quit Whining at June 3, 2009 01:50 PM

Reiterating Obama's inane logic doesn't make more logical or relevant. By your own reasoning, the "for all of them" argument is pointless since it can be applied to virtually anything - religions, nationalities, hot-dog eaters, people who make stoopid comments on blogs under the alias Quit Whining, etc. Unless, of course, Obama didn't have a point (wouldn't surprise me since he's an empty suit).

And seriously, "It would seem she'd already lent it to your mother." That's pathetic. Yo momma would be ashamed that that's the best you could reply with.

Posted by: Yo Mama at June 3, 2009 02:17 PM

I didn't feel the need to respond in any other way than I was responded to. But if you feel the need to take the higher road, it's all yours.

Posted by: Quit Whining at June 3, 2009 02:22 PM

You can't counter a your mother joke with a "no, your mother". Just loses the humor, man.

Even using your stupid raw numbers argument, Christine just crushed it with her link.

Wiki has Muslims in the US estimate at anywhere between 1.1 million to a very high 7-8 million (unlikely) we still wouldn't be in the top 26 Muslim countries with the latter number or top 31 countries for the former.

Obama, and you, are just wrong, factually incorrect. Live with it, the messiah made a mistake.

Posted by: Karol at June 3, 2009 02:23 PM

Oh, and I'm not reiterating Obama's logic nearly as much as I'm calling out the latest rightwing conspiracy nuts on their command of the facts.

Seeing as how I haven't been invited to address the UN of late, this is how I do it. OK with you?

If people such as yourself want to be seen as anything other than GOP partisan hacks, you may not want to try building mountains out of every Obama mole hill.

Kinda like trying to tell monkeys not to fling crap, I know, but something to consider.

Posted by: Quit Whining at June 3, 2009 02:26 PM

Obama, and you, are just wrong, factually incorrect. Live with it, the messiah made a mistake.

Oh, so now the Karols of the blogosphere aren't trying to intimate "He-l-l-l-p, Obama thinks we're a Muslim nation!"; they're merely concerned about correcting some flawed numbers, even though they probably know what Obama meant. Uh-huh. Right. No agenda here, folks.

At least have the courage to admit your convictions. Of course then, you'd have to change your blog's title to "Alarmist News."

Posted by: Quit Whining at June 3, 2009 02:32 PM

Hahahah. You know, I'm just having a slow day that's why I engaged you at all. You have zero arguments that make any sense. You went from arguing about percentages to raw numbers to whether Jews have things in common with Americans. And then you answered 'your mother' to a 'your mother' joke. Lame-ass.

Posted by: Karol at June 3, 2009 02:33 PM

From the quality of your argument, I've got the feeling you have plenty of slow days.

Posted by: Quit Whining at June 3, 2009 02:34 PM

Oh, and BTW, anyone still using "messiah" to refer to Obama HAS no rationale argument to make.

Posted by: Quit Whining at June 3, 2009 02:37 PM

Which she never said. You can't air that bullshit meme without mentioning that crucial point.

Posted by: someone at June 3, 2009 03:03 PM

("She" being Palin, of course. Tina Fey, of course, did say it.)

Posted by: someone at June 3, 2009 03:04 PM

Obama said we're Muslim because "Barack Obama doesn't care about white people". I think every argument which engages Democrats should be as astute as the idiocy we had to listen to for 8 years.

I don't care how wrong and stupid I am as long as I'm the loudest - isn't that the Democratic way of arguing/thinking?

Posted by: elana at June 3, 2009 03:25 PM

And for B.O.'s sake, I'm really glad he won't be visiting Israel on this trip abroad and embarrassing the wits out of himself. The Saudis prefer his brand of hope and ignorance, it would never fly in Israel.

Posted by: elana at June 3, 2009 03:28 PM

On the one hand Obama says we are not a nation of Christian, then he turns around and says we could be a nation of Muslims...Obama did not have my vote last time and he will not have it the next time...I am still waiting for the TARP and appropriation bills to come due. Wheres the money coming from???

Posted by: Patrick at June 3, 2009 03:54 PM

Quit Whining should do just that. Acting like a victim is just not sexy.

By the way, QW, the USA has a little over 300 million people---not the 220 million that you claim.

I loved Patrick's point about how The Obamesssiah asserts we're NOT a Christian nation, but that we ARE one of the biggest Muslim nations.

Our President sure does have an intense desire to bend over backwards to please Muslims.
Maybe it has something Freudian to do with his Muslim father and Muslim step-father both rejecting him.

Posted by: IamTheWalrus at June 3, 2009 05:48 PM

I read somewhere that there are at least 23 countries with a larger Muslim population then the U.S.....Barry, Baruch, Barack is a joke...I hope the Jews in Florida wake up by 2012.

Posted by: Larry at June 3, 2009 06:41 PM

@ IAmTheWalrus: I reject him too, are you saying I'm his father??

:)

Posted by: elana at June 3, 2009 07:49 PM

Quit Whining managed a stellar display of idiocy here today. The poor sap never once gave thought to if, by any count of the numbers, America could be considered a prominent Muslim country. We're obviously dealing with the kind of Leftist who needs the President to be an immaculate daddy figure.

Posted by: WhiningJustBecameCool at June 3, 2009 09:41 PM

@ Elana;

Ha, ha, ha.
You funny.

The answer is, no, but I likewise reject The Chosen One, so I think that somehow makes me YOUR daddy !
