Barack Obama doesn't care about gay people
Trouble is, they don't seem to mind.

Yeah they'll be with Obama till the last dog dies no matter how little he does for them and no matter how much the likes of Cheney gush about gay marriage.
So who's going to lead the family values charge? David Vitter? Newt? Larry Craig? John Ensign? The American people can put up with a lot of personal foibles and follies (see Clinton, Bill) but if you're going to be the "incorruptible crusader" type, you better control yourself. It's why Spitzer being with a hooker is more of a story than if say Pataki or Tim Kaine did or why John Edwards facing a "is he the baby's daddy" story is a lot more riveting than if it was Mark Warner. I think a Republican can really position himself well for the future if he comes out swinging against Obama here but he better make sure there are no skeletons in the closet.
Posted by: Von Bek at June 17, 2009 01:45 PMkind of off topic, but if it's ok to make jokes about Palin's kid cuz she actually had a baby; does that mean we can make Obama cocaine jokes?
Posted by: Larry at June 17, 2009 02:24 PMWait, being Barack means never having to say you're sorry?
But also, love means never having to say you're sorry.
Ergo, Barack is love. It must be! Who is like unto the beast? Who is able to make war with him?
And somehow Al Gore fits in this, because after all, they based on the movie on him and Tipper.
Posted by: Perry Eidelbus at June 17, 2009 03:37 PMI don't understand why people blame Obama for Proposition 8's passage.
What exactly could he have done to prevent black Californians from voting to enact Prop. 8? Do you think someone who's a churchgoing Christian is going to change his view of gay marriage because a political candidate he supports tells them to a week or two before the plebiscite is held?
Posted by: Gerard at June 17, 2009 04:15 PMAnd since when is Ryan Sager gay?
Posted by: Gerard at June 17, 2009 04:40 PMAnd since when is Ryan Sager gay?
Hahahah, I caught that line too but I don't think he meant to say he's gay, just gay-friendly (I think his wife hopes the same) and, I believe, an Obama-voter.
I think if Obama supported gay marriage, which he spent his entire campaign saying HE DOES NOT, he would've said a work about Prop 8 and maybe, at the very minimum, had some people abstain from voting. He could have swayed things, chose not to.
Posted by: Karol at June 17, 2009 05:10 PMI don't think he is gay or an Obama voter. I think he was speaking as the internal monologue of a gay Obama voter (not redundant, See Davis, Dorian).
The projecting thing isn't unique to Obama supporters. Remember when you thought that Bush would be a fiscal conservative?
Posted by: Charles at June 17, 2009 05:59 PMI actually think Ryan admitted to voting for Obama at some point, though I could be wrong. And how does Dorian Davis have the internal monologue of a gay Obama voter?
Posted by: Karol at June 17, 2009 06:43 PMOh, and I don't think most people thought Bush would be a fiscal conservative ("compassionate" conservative meant "spend money" conservative) but I did think he'd be more fiscally conservative than Gore or Kerry.

Thanks for bringing me into this. Whenever the word "gay" comes up, I want to be there.

The point I think Charles is making about it not being "redundant" is that I wouldn't have been expected to vote for Obama, being a Republican, but did.
For people wondering, I made a pact with God that if Obama could knock out Clinton, I'd vote for him.
Posted by: Dorian Davis at June 17, 2009 10:51 PMActually, now that I reread it, Charles was saying that "gay Obama voter" is not redundant BECAUSE he assumes you voted for McCain, Dorian and therefore destroyed the impression that ALL gay people are Obama voters. Turns out, not.
Posted by: Karol at June 17, 2009 11:02 PMI'm full of surprises.
Posted by: Dorian Davis at June 17, 2009 11:04 PMI voted for Obama. -not gay, but was feeling left out.
P.S. Dorian, I'm pretty sure I could take you in the Color Purple Act Off.

You could never take me in the CP act-off. I've been doing that monologue for over a decade.
Posted by: Dorian Davis at June 17, 2009 11:34 PMHe is an Obama voter, which makes him extremely gay.
Posted by: Gerard at June 18, 2009 03:45 AMThis thread makes my head hurt. Based on who is apparently self-reporting voting for Obama I am currently surprised that McCain broke 30%.
Posted by: Charles at June 18, 2009 11:23 AMRyan Sager admitted to voting for Obama when he addressed the membership of the YRs a few month's back. He claimed that Sen. McCain's temperment wasn't suited for President. He probably was right, but still, Obama?
Anyway, who would've thought that former majority leader Joe Bruno would be to the left of President Obama.
"What exactly could he have done to prevent black Californians from voting to enact Prop. 8?"
You tell us, Gerard. Liberals are the ones who ascribe god-like powers to him. Maureen Dowd thinks he's The One to teach us how to eat healthy.
