Deeply meaningless
Obama is:
"deeply troubled" by the situation in Iran.
"deeply saddened" by recruiter shooting
"deeply disappointed" by sentencing of American journalist in Iran to 8 years
"deeply concerned" about hurricane Gustav.
"deeply saddened" about troop deaths at U.S. Base In Iraq
"deeply interested" in strengthening ties with Pakistan.
PREVIOUS on our great orator president: Obama just wants to be very clear.

Posted by: Tatyana at June 19, 2009 03:40 PMI wish Obama was "deeply troubled" by Reverend Wright, Bill Ayers, Rashid Khalidi, Charles Freeman, Tony McPeak, Samantha Power, Ali Abunimah, et al.
Posted by: IamTheWalrus at June 19, 2009 03:57 PMYeah, he's putting it to us deeply.
Posted by: VagueNewWaveReference at June 19, 2009 07:47 PMSounds like Savage Garden's "Truly, Madly, Deeply" is in line to be tomorrow's song of the day!
Posted by: joe comment at June 19, 2009 09:25 PMYet when the notorious abortionist in Kansas was killed he was "shocked and outraged." Words matter and I assume he and his handlers chose different ones for that matter intentionally.

Posted by: Joe Grossberg at June 20, 2009 08:00 PMJohn McCain was calling to bomb iran; now all of a sudden he is concerned about people! Republicans are using the iranian people to score cheap political points against obama.
Posted by: mintchocolate at June 20, 2009 11:18 PMmintchocolate,
Sounds like the chef put too many nuts in your batter.
When McCain expressed bombing Iran, he was talking explicitly about bombing their nuclear facilities---not bombing the Iranian people.
But I guess when Obamessiah gave that speech in Cairo a week and a half ago and explicitly said that human freedoms are universal, you will admit that Obama didn't have the Iranian people in mind under the umbrella of "universal."
Posted by: IamTheWalrus at June 21, 2009 01:42 AMI'm kind of curious what everyone wants the President to do? Oh, don't get me wrong--the man needs to buy a thesaurus and a moral compass. However, I think juxtaposing the picture of him taking his kids out for ice cream with that of a shot Iranian woman (as I've seen elsewhere) is a bit much.
Castigating Obama for not helping the rev...revo...people who are really upset but haven't quite reached critical mass yet ignores a couple salient facts. First, if we lend support it allows the regime to cast them as Western puppets--and that's no joke given Iran's history with Western "intervention." Second, if you're talking _direct_ intervention--well, we're kind of tapped out for resources right now in case you hadn't noticed.
So, I put it to the other readers--what should the President be doing if what he's doing is wrong?
