Don't you all wish you were on twitter?
Last night, on twitter, I somehow became part of what Ben Smith called "a minor, major cultural moment."
You all know my feelings on Meghan McCain. To sum up, I think she's dumb as a doorbell and a terrible representative of any Republican ideal, even the ones where she and I share a position (her arguments are completely empty--her argument on gay marriage amounts to "don't hate", insulting those with a different opinion, which is the least effective way of changing peoples' minds) . As I've said before, I don't *hate* her, I just want her the hell off the national stage as the token "Republican". Her father is bad for the party and so is she. Both are just media pawns who give the right anti-Republican soundbite while getting to attach themselves to the Republican brand.
My friend Allahpundit, however, likes Meghan and has defended her against conservatives who don't on many occasions. To thank him for this, she's has insulted and mocked him in public several times, calling him creepy (thanks for the pic, dahlhalla) and, last night, likening him to Buffalo Bill of Silence of the Lambs:
"pretty much my image of @allahpundit is I am the chick from silence of the lambs and he is screaming at me in a hole 2 put lotion on my skin"
I don't "follow" her on twitter so when I started to see people repeating what she said about Allah, I got kind of pissed. It's one thing to be a jerk. It's another to be a jerk to someone who has been so good to you for so long.
I wrote to her: "you're really sick to shit on someone who defended you like @allahpundit did. Shows you like being treated bad." And added: "You'll get what you deserve, I imagine you already do."
About 45 minutes later, Jake Tapper, Sr White House Correspondent for ABC News, tweeted:
"Whiskey Tango Foxtrot people? Leave @McCainBlogette alone. if she's not your cup of tea, move on. Yeesh. So foxtrot lame."
Then adding:
"am not taking issue with those who disagree with @McCainBlogette. but ppl are just foxtrot rude and foxtrot mean. it's foxtrot lame."
And
"and frankly -- it's cowardly."
I assumed he was talking to people like me, I had just criticized her. I had to ask people what foxtrot meant. What? I'm an immigrant!
I wrote back "I'll move on as soon as she is never again on my tv." And "How is cowardly? I'd say it all to her face."
Jake has somehow never heard of me, shocker I know, so he responded:
"you'd say it all to her face? you dont even use your full name in your tweets!"
It's true, I use Karolnyc because my old last name was 7 letters and my new last name has 9. Twitter has a 140 character limit and I don't want people cutting off my name when they retweet me.
Lots of people jumped to my defense explaining that I was not at all anonymous, including Greg Pollowitz and Patterico (thanks, guys). Jake Tapper ended our argument with "I'm not going to quarrel with a defender of @allahpundit." Oh yeah, because who we should be defending is the overexposed, undertalented and generally nutso daughter of a failed presidential candidate who is determined to spin her lineage into a career for herself. That's who needs our defending.
Anyway, turns out it's unlikely Jake was talking about criticizers like me, anyway. Apparently, shortly after she insulted Allahpundit she decided to post a photograph of herself at home which was about 80% boobs, 10% head and 10% the book she wanted to showcase. I post the pic after the jump, I don't consider it safe for work.
This photo was the one that got her a slew of comments. How surprising, right? A woman posts a photo of her breasts online and people have commentary! It's like the internet is a place where people can just willy nilly post opinions and seeing the breasts of someone half-way famous can make them all judgmental. Please, people, contain your shock. It looks like the comments that she got on this photo are the comments that Jake Tapper found so offensive and Meggers has now threatened to quit Twitter. The concept of simply not posting pictures of her breasts is not one she is familiar with.
So there you have it. Last night's minor major cultural moment. Don't all run out and get on twitter all at once now.

I can't get too angry with McCain, since she's just too childish to take seriously. But Tapper comes out of this looking like an ass.
Posted by: Eric at October 15, 2009 12:42 PMExcellent, and thank you. I replied to her nasty tweet about allahpundit too, after seeing it RT'd. The Jake Tapper stuff was really lame. This (apparently) grown up woman spews nasty, judgmental shit about people all the time, but Jake says we should treat her more respectfully.
Oh, for crying out loud.
Must be the boobs. Oh, and the constant dissing of the Republicans. Effective combo! ;-)
Meggie got just what she wanted, I am convinced.

Then we need a new culture.
As far as Jake Tapper goes, when he was at Dartmouth, he published a cartoon in the school paper: Clarence Thomas as a lawn jockey.
So his opinion should mean nothing to anyone...and he certainly shouldn't be allowed near the NFL.
Posted by: Oschisms at October 15, 2009 12:51 PMThank you Karol!
That vapid twit should thank Allahpundit on her knees for the traffic he drives to her moronic columns on the Daily Douchebag. I love how she's playing poor little victimized innocent girl now that she's drawn some criticism, rather than the fawning she anticipated. Screw her. She makes women look bad and conservative women look awful. Bravo for calling her out. Now just convince Allahpundit to move on and never link her again and you'll have every Hot Air reader's undying gratitude.
Posted by: Monica at October 15, 2009 12:54 PMSeems AllahPundit is experiencing something the kids like to call "Karma"
Posted by: ReDectCorp at October 15, 2009 01:01 PMYou're a good friend to Allahpundit. I hope he appreciates you. How many people have pregnant women willing to go mana a mana with the likes of McCainBoobette for them?
Hmm, I just realized that soon your breasts will be as large as hers. However, I doubt you will be posting photos of them on your twitter account.
Posted by: effie at October 15, 2009 01:07 PMOh, look! She's showing off her brains!
Posted by: Tae at October 15, 2009 01:20 PMI was away yesterday and missed the twitter excitement! I'm so pissed.
Anyway, I share Karol's view of our little Meg's 100%. I get as exercised over Meghan as Karol does. She is young and childish, but so irritating that she gets so much attention as the resident "Republican" when all she talks about is how horrible republicans are and her hair extensions.
I especially get pissed at AP for defending her all the time considering the nasty stuff she has said about him. I suppose he has his reasons.
This bit about the pic...she is NOT that dumb. She hangs out with Tila Tequila so she knows boobs=attention. She knew exactly what she was doing....and besides she talks about her tata's more than any other 20-something year old.
How many negative comments did she get? Like 8? Big whoop. I like how she goaded her "fans" into begging her not to quit twitter. I guess people need a place to go to get the latest update on glitter and rainbows.
Posted by: RamRants at October 15, 2009 01:23 PM1) I'm amazed someone doesn't know Karol...get it together Tapper
2) Sounds like Jake wants to Tapper...or maybe has.
3) Let me get this straight...Allahpundit likes Megan, but hates Mike H.....somethin ain't kosher there
Posted by: Larry at October 15, 2009 01:32 PMTake it easy, young lady. Your dad, Senator McCain, has done a lot worse, including calling for the bomb, bomb, bomb, Iran !! You did not hurt anyone, not even your own reputation. Always remember, our feet of clay. Great picture, by the way !! What are you doing next week, Meghan !!?
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Any woman with an IQ over 50 knows this, Tila Tequila notwithstanding. It doesn't mean she's not dumb.
Posted by: Eric at October 15, 2009 03:41 PMI first saw the picture at dailymail.co.uk, where the headline says, in part, "John McCain's daughter ...." If Meghan really wanted to be taken seriously as more than the daughter of someone famous, she wouldn't pull stunts like this. It's great that you tweeted. Kind of weird that Jake Tapper did.
Posted by: KS at October 15, 2009 08:01 PMKarol: YOU'RE FIRED! [check twitter]
Posted by: effie at October 15, 2009 10:01 PMI can't be the only one sensing this, can I? Can this be the longest 15 minutes some nobody has ever had? (Levi is making a run at her.) She can't even construct a coherent sentence or produce an intelligent thought or support any statement with facts, thoughtful analysis or logic. And she gets (I suppose) a respected reporter jumping to her defense like a teenager? This is what happens when a good thing like Twitter (disclosure: I do not use it, follow annyone, etc.) gets overused. Karol, I just found your site fairly recently from a link at HA. Keep up the good work.
Posted by: Rick at October 16, 2009 12:34 AMAnd she gets (I suppose) a respected reporter jumping to her defense like a teenager?
That's the most disappointing aspect of this whole thing, from my perspective. Tapper is pretty much the only high profile, non-Fox journalist that's willing to ask questions that the Obama people find uncomfortable.
Posted by: Eric at October 16, 2009 04:51 PMWhat gets me about the picture is how absolutely skanky she looks. Seriously, I've been to Amsterdam, and the women in the windows with the red lights look classier.
Posted by: Mark Poling at October 16, 2009 10:24 PMMark - I was wondering am I the only one who sees it?
Posted by: Tatyana at October 17, 2009 09:25 AMTatyana, no, you are not. Good lord. Whatever guy is stupid enough to hook up with her, he deserves what little she has to offer.
Posted by: Perry Eidelbus at October 18, 2009 11:15 AMSee, Perry, usually when I note things like that, even in the politest of tones, I'm immediately shouted at for
a) being envious of the beauty of the Object in question
b) hinted at being an old prune (alternative: spinster. alternative: post-menopausal prude. alternative: bitching under PMS. Sometimes all three alternatives combined in one accusation, incredibly)
c) not understanding the fashion style/"happening"/hip visual vocabulary. I.e. - not an "in" person
So I've learned to make the note mentally, point and laugh wordlessly and move on. Life's too short.
Incidentally, in the light of this last sentence and in answer to the question at the title of this post: now less than ever.

Posted by: Tatyana at October 18, 2009 03:45 PMIf Megan McCain was trying to get more Twitter followers, this is one effective way to do it
Posted by: Sam Kaufman at October 18, 2009 04:33 PMIf her boobs have grown that large you just know them thighs and butt have grown at the same rate...
Posted by: Fuzzlenutter at October 20, 2009 06:03 PMThis biaytch needs an intervention:
"people come up to me and remind me all the time how "different" I am than any other woman in politics, I am aware, its something that I feel so intensely it is almost tangible. But I know that I live my life pushing boundaries and stereotypes instead of conforming to them..."
Yeah, your're different. You've got the biggest tits in politics.
